Additional Info
Slalom Races – Gold and Silver will race on same course but in separate fleets, Bronze will race completely separately. You can discuss what fleet you want to be in at registration. We will attempt to get double the races for Gold and Silver compared to Bronze. Slalom racing will be a long way from the beach if we are at Fergy Park. Therefore we will aim to get the rounds done in one block.
Tides – Tides are lunch time but we may shift some blocks around to make sure there is enough water to do the racing fairly. So this time table is indicative!!!!!!!! But we will put the start times for each block on a white board so we all know when and where to be.
Low wind – If there is a major lack of breeze then we will swap out Slalom for match racing around a short course. Also the Matakana Blast will be unable to happen. But we’ll have some other things on the go to amuse you all.
Foiling – We will have foil racing for all classes when the wind is too light for slalom. Gold/Silver will most likely sail a triangle large course and bronze will do a sausage. Also we will run a timed event rather than a certain amount of laps. If people with light wind slalom want to join in with this then great, the more the merrier. Who will do more laps, the fin or the foil?
Team Relay – We will assign teams for this event to make it as fair as possible. No rules for gear, use whatever you think you need too. Will be a race to a buoy and back to the beach. When you cross the start/finish line your next team member can go. Last team member completes the race through the finish line. For safety reasons we will have all starters on the upwind side of the start line and you will finish at the downwind side of the start/finish line. This will stop us having to cross paths.
Matakana Blast – If the weather and wind direction is good, we will take the start boat out to the other side of the harbour. The race will be from the beach, gybe around the boat and back to the finish line. Gold/Silver/Bronze all race together, but competing in your class. (Note for Bronze fleet, if you are not 100% confident then we will discuss if a shorter course would be more appropriate)
Gybe Off – Who has the coolest, smoothest, flashiest, lowest, bad ass gybe out there. Who knows what we will be judging based on. But if you can’t gybe that well and you show you tried as hard as you could then you might win something. If you can gybe and you make everyone on the beach ohhh and ahhh then you’ll be rewarded. Judges decision is final and yes we do take bribes.
General Rules
All entrants must register, pay race fees and sign the entry form before 09:30 on the day of the Race.
All racers must display unique number/ symbol on their sails (tape will be supplied) and if you do not have an official WNZ number then we will assign you something at registration.
All entrants must be competent windsurfers in the prevailing conditions and be able to water start or uphaul confidently.
Give way rules to be understood and followed (recapped during race briefing). If you are unsure of your rights then Give Way!!!!
This event is all about fun and laughs. If you have never raced before then don’t worry, it’s going to be very light hearted. Gold fleet will race hard and they know the rules anyway. Silver fleet roughly the same, just not quite got the pace to be Gold. Bronze is for those that are not on slalom gear or are not confident at racing yet. Gold fleet – follow the AWA rules of racing. Silver and Bronze, just be sensible and give way to avoid contact.
Race format and starting procedure to be covered during race briefing.
The Race officer’s decision is final, their decisions are based purely on safety, fun and encouraging participation.
C4 Food Truck for Coffee & Lunch
Please show your support for Paige & Dion who normally park at Ferg Park selling their delicious selection of Eats & Drinks.
We've managed to convince them to support our event for the weekend and they will be parked up just inside Kulim Park so that competitors and non-participants alike can easily access their food truck. Coffee will be available from 8am and you can make your plan for lunch then too!
Parking & Rigging Areas
To ensure the continued support of TCC and not get off-side with the local community, we ask that you please try to keep to our agreed areas and/or park considerately if you need to park elsewhere.
Kulim Park Boatshed Area
For health & safety reasons, we are required to cordon off this area as our agreed "Event Venue" and all guests must show their Vax Pass to attend.
Our Registration tent will be located at the entrance to our Event Venue in order to provide the agreed security for our guests.
We will have volunteers helping to direct you to suitable parking areas so please let us know in advance or let our volunteers know if you have any special requirements.
