THJ Thanks
Thanks for everyone who turned up to the event and sorry for those that missed out. We got some funky winds to deal with on the Saturday and did the best we could for the wind that was provided.
Foil Course & Other Races
We’ve noted that for the next event we do need to make sure we have a foiling course for the bronze fleet that is more enjoyable and achievable. For the fins, we would have preferred to do a downwind slalom, but the light winds would have made it difficult to get from the finish back to the start for each race, so the figure8 was the best option for that day. Hopefully we’ll get more wind in Sept and can run some proper downwind slalom.
On the Sunday we had some fun match long board racing after a leisurely breakfast BBQ morning. The tides meant we had to hang around longer than we had hoped for so apologies for that. Our Sept event has the high tides around midday so this will allow us to start earlier both days.
Wing Foilers Wanted!
We are looking to include more people to this event and hopefully we will attract some wing foilers. They are growing in numbers everywhere and I’m sure they will enjoy the weekend as a social gathering just as much as the time on the water. So Tauranga Windsurfing has some marketing to do. If you know anyone in the winging scene then please invite them along.
Bronze Fleet
Also, as you can see from this last event we have a number of beginners from Tauranga that joined the bronze fleet. We would love to see more people who are learning around the country to come along and join in. It’s a very friendly and safe environment for an introduction to windsurfing events.
As always we know there are things we can improve and work on, so we will have a debrief about this last event soon and discuss how we can improve what we have to offer. If anyone has anything they would like to mention that will help us create a better event, please get in touch.
Save the Date: 17-18 Sept, ‘22
We are looking forward to running the 17-18th Sept2022 event with no covid restrictions. The tides are perfect for that weekend and generally the winds here in September are more consistent. The water is a little colder, but hopefully we’ll get some solid wind to play in.
Cheers
John
